In DC this week at the National Institutes of Health with Mark Hansen — we’re in a working group for an initiative, Open mHealth, which seeks to standardize an open-source architecture for participatory sensing in medical research. For example, high school students in underserved communities can use mobile devices to take a census of local businesses, generating an invaluable dataset for researchers and policy makers concerned with access to healthy foods and opportunities for physical recreation. It’s a difficult project, but there are some great folks involved, including from CENS at UCLA and Google. Excited to see where this goes.
